The Historic Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple at Bhadrachalam

Bhdrachalam Temple History

The Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple is a masterpiece of devotion and architecture. Legend states that Lord Rama appeared in the dream of a woman named Pokala Dhammakka, leading her to the idols in the jungle.

However, the temple's modern history is deeply intertwined with Kancherla Gopanna, popularly known as Bhakt Ramadasu. In the 17th century, as a Tehsildar, he utilized government tax funds to reconstruct this magnificent temple, for which he was imprisoned by the Tanishah of Golconda. It is said that Lord Rama and Lakshmana themselves appeared in disguise to repay the gold coins and secure Ramadasu's release.

Today, the temple stands as a symbol of "Vaikuntha Rama," where Rama is seen holding a bow, arrow, and a conch, representing a unique divine form.

The Majestic Papikondalu

Located near Bhadrachalam, Papikondalu (The Papi Hills) are a series of stunning mountains spread along the Godavari River. The name is derived from the word 'Papidi', as the gorge looks like a middle partition of a woman's hair when viewed from above.

The journey to Papikondalu is a breathtaking experience involving a boat cruise through the winding river, surrounded by lush green forests and towering hills. It is often described as the "Kashmir of Andhra Pradesh" for its serene beauty and pleasant atmosphere.

Visitors can enjoy overnight stays in bamboo huts at Kolluru or Papi Hills, experiencing the raw beauty of nature, tribal culture, and the peaceful flow of the sacred Godavari.
